NUI GALWAY ELITE ATHLETE SCHOLARSHIP
This scheme has been running for several years and has been one of the most successful schemes in the country in supporting young, talented athletes reach in the top of their sport and achieving academic excellence.
A number of current and former scholarship are National Champions and Internationals in Rugby, Rowing, Boxing, Swimming, Basketball, Athletics, Windsurfing, Climbing and Sailing amongst others.
The Scholarship program has been strategically developed not just to reward their ability and previous performances but to assist these young athletes develop their sporting ability hand in hand with their academic progress by putting in place the necessary supports.
The benefits of being a scholarship holder include:
A subsistence grant
Coaching support
Medical and Physiotherapy support
Performance Nutrition
Performance Psychology
Strength and Conditioning
Performance planning and mentoring.
Each scholarship will be built around the individual’s needs and their chosen sport. Our key goal is to provide the supports that the ambitious and dedicated athlete can avail of to help them improve and excel.
CAO PERFORMANCE POINTS SCHOLARSHIP
The following criteria applies:
Applicants must be new entrants to NUI Galway.
Applicants must achieve a minimum of 350 CAO points from a single sitting of the Leaving Certificate in 6 subjects.
All Leaving Certificate entry course requirements must be met.
Scholarship applies to full-time undergraduate courses only.
Offers may not be deferred.
The Scholarship currently does not apply to GY501 Medicine.
If you apply for the Performance Points Scholarship you will be automatically entered for consideration for the elite Scholarship.

Application process
The scheme applies only to new entrants seeking full time undergraduate courses at NUI Galway.
Applicants must be under 21 years of age on 1st April in the year of application. And only those
sports whose National Governing body is recognised by the Irish sports Council can be considered.
ELITE SPORTS SCHOLARSHIP
The following criteria applies:
You are a new entrant in 2021
You are a current NUI Galway student.
You are a student transferring to NUI Galway.
You are hoping to do a postgraduate course at NUI Galway.
If you apply for the Performance Points Scholarship you will be automatically entered for consideration for the elite Scholarship.
