Colm Flynn is a qualified guidance counsellor and an experienced secondary school teacher. He has vast experience in coaching teams for his club, school, and county development.
His literary work includes a dissertation about the role of the guidance counsellor in supporting student athletes. He has also contributed a chapter entitled “The Student Athlete” to Paul Kilgannons book “Be The Best You Can Be in Sport – A Book for Irish Youth”.
Colm is also part of the STARTING 11 research team. This Erasmus + project is currently developing The Europen Dual Career Toolkit, which will assist institutions in sport, education and the labour market to transform the dual career concept into effective action. He has been granted access to this toolkit and is currently using it in his work with student-athletes.
He holds a keen interest in promoting and creating a blend between an athlete’s education, sporting life, and other important elements of their development as a person. He appreciates an athlete’s ambition to maximise their potential in all domains and believes more can be done to support the student athlete across the board.
In completing his dissertation, Colm discovered the need for a “one-stop-shop” for sporting scholarships across the third level colleges of Ireland. This website is designed to allow student-athletes an opportunity to research and find the best potential scholarship that compliments the pursuit of their dual career.
